Left-handers Day 2018: Customer Experience Challenges of Left- handers

Left-handers are a group of customers who are seldom catered for in our righties world. Even though they are considered a minority, they exist and they count as customers whose satisfaction should be priority for any business.

Customercentricity is in the details - paying attention to the needs of your customer and structuring your business processes to accommodate their unique needs and preferences.

Right from Kindergarten, left-handed children are forgotten by most schools. They are conditioned to write with their right hands as desks are designed for righties. Even while playing games the needs of a left-handed child are not factored into game rules. This forces a lot of them to be introverted; no one loves to be the odd one out.

Service areas in most companies  are designed for righties. Attempting to sign a document with the pen hanging on the right, write in a note pad stringed on the left, cut with a right handed scissors all pose challenges for a left-handed customer ,

Many go through years of  adjusting trying to fit into a right-handed world. The sight of a left-hander often sparks up stories of how one out of a thousand distant relations is also a left hander and nothing is usually done to better the experience of the left-hander.

Customercentric businesses identify the uniqueness of such customers and make provisions for them in their service structure and process. There can be one of out of a thousand signing desks for left-handers and their gift notepads can be stringed on the right instead of the left. They can be seated on the left end of the table or to the right of other left-handers on a dining table and we all can commit to making them enjoy wow experiences as they are also entitled to 'live left' and exercise their rights as lefties even though majority think it is a righties world.

Thank goodness  we now have apps for left-handers on IOS  and android (I cant recommend them but I would definitely love to read reviews from those who try them). Here's also How to hold pencil and paper for left-handers

Please read this English sentence -   siht daer uoy nac

How easy was it? that's a bit of how left handers have to struggle to fit in.

From guitars to scissors, from cock screws  to can openers, from non-smudge pens to left handers conference folders, more companies can commit to creating better experiences for left handers.

In case you are wondering, I'm not left-handed. I am just a crazy customercentric who loves to help businesses create and sustain wow customer experiences for the internal and external customer and educate customers on their rights and responsibilities.

The Unwritten Contract of Trust Between Businesses and Customers

Every business has an unwritten contract of trust with customers that patronize them. The trust contract includes such agreements like: The product or service you are rendering is what you say it is  It is of the quality you say it is It has the features you say it has It renders the benefits you say it offers It is as durable as you say it is …. Much more than the formal contracts we sign with clients, the unwritten trust contract fosters loyalty. It registers your business as a dependable brand in the sub-conscious of your customers . It makes your business the first name that comes to mind when your product or service is needed. Need we say more about the ills you bring on your business when the contract of trust is breached? Some customers might fall victim of the falsehood you have laced your business with, but sooner than you expect, the unsuspecting customer becomes aware of your falsehood and they switch to your competitors. New Year, Same Old Business

It’s a new year, and as expected, businesses are re-assuring customers of their renewed commitment to serve them better. This, as you would know, includes businesses who have unresolved issues with customers from the just concluded year; but this new year statement of commitment is a trend, so, we all play along. It’s quite sad that in over 6 months of transacting with businesses of different sizes in different sectors in Nigeria, since my return, I am yet to come across excellent service. This is not to say I haven’t noticed any improvement in service delivery but, the customer-centricity factor is still lacking. Business owners brag about how sophisticated their products and services are, and even liken them to what obtains in western countries. They encourage customers to patronize Made in Nigeria products (I support this because it helps the Nigerian economy) but, I still maintain that they still don’t get it. The Nigerian business environment is different, presen...
